Neil Hepburn is an independent Inverness-based marketing and PR specialist with a strong grasp of event cinema exhibition and audience development. As Marketing Manager for the Cameo Cinema in Edinburgh for 5 years, Neildeveloped a track record in creating award-winning dynamic campaigns across a variety of digital and offline platforms. Building targeted audience databases, contributing to retention strategies and identifying opportunities for cross promotion were integral to this role. Neil met and exceeded targets, including a remit to increase pre-sales and attendance for alternative content and regular strands. He also managed social media for a range of vibrant platforms, handled press relations and wrote outstanding copy for both digital and printed media.
Neil’s skill in creating cross-sectoral connections between culture and business has earned him awards for his innovative marketing and promotional strategies, including from leading spirits group Edrington Group for producing an online advertising campaign supporting the re-branding of Cutty Sark Whisky, and major commercial film distributors StudioCanal and Picturehouse Cinemas, for his regional film marketing campaigns and writing.
During the summer of 2018 Neil moved with his family to Inverness to pursue a freelance marketing career in the arts. He now works as the British Film Institute’s Film Audience Network regional marketeer for Scotland, devising and implementing ideas and activity for press and marketing, aimed at developing a 16 - 30 year old audience. An enthusiastic fan of the arts, Neil has written on diversity in programming, reviews films and music, and is a regular arts contributor on BBC Radio Scotland.
Neil is also the co-ordinator for Scalarama Highlands & Islands, working with venues across the region to promote projects and attract national press exposure. This has included promoting a sold-out night of films directed by women in Dunvegan Castle on the isle of Skye and an in-person event for the 50th anniversary screening of IF… at Eden Court, Inverness with actor David Wood.
